Ramel "Rami" Rones moved to Boston from Israel in 1983 to study martial arts with Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming. He is one of Dr. Yang's disciples.

After years of winning gold medals in China and in the United States, Ramel now focuses his efforts on helping people with situations such as cancer, arthritis, aging, injuries, and stress. Having witnessed firsthand the profound long-term benefits of Taiji and Qigong practice, he has been working since 1989 to improve the lives of cancer and arthritis patients. Today, Ramel is a Scientific Consultant of Mind/Body Therapies at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Harvard and Tufts Medical Schools, as well as co-author of numerous scientific publications. He lectures and instructs the techniques of the eastern Internal Arts in hospitals, institutions, and schools around the world. In addition to contributing articles to medical publications, Ramel is featured on international television (CNN, National Geographic), in newspapers (The Boston Globe), magazines (Inside Kung Fu), books, and videos. He is co-author of several books, including Sunrise Tai Chi with David Silver and numerous scientific publications.

Rami is also the creator of the exhibit "Tai Chi Chuan - Secrets of Aging" Science Museum traveling exhibition (Boston, Columbus, Los Angeles, Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Minneapolis) 2000-2004.

Ramel is a Gold medalist in Internal and External Martial Arts: 3-Time Gold Medalist in Shanghai China for Tai Chi, External & Internal Weapons (Grand National Championship 1994) & Gold Medalist for Tai Chi & Kung-Fu Sword, 1994. From 1991-1993, Ramel earned Gold Medals for Tai Chi, Pushing Hands and Tai Chi Sword in the International North American Chinese Martial Arts Competition. From National Geographic Explorations.

In 2004, National Geographic filmed a study done on the effects of Meditation and Tai Chi for a program called "Explorations." Ramel, the test subject, was asked to meditate using various methods, while his brain was scanned and vital signs were recorded by researcher Dr. Sarah Lazar at Mass General Hospital, the world's foremost brain research facility.

The data extracted dramatically demonstrated Rami's ability to rapidly modulate his breathing rate and physiological arousal level as he entered a meditative state. This finding complements Lazar's broader study which found that advanced meditators like Rami are able to activate a broad network of cortical and subcortical areas associated with emotional and cognitive regulation, which has many health benefits.

This six-minute documentary of the study offers a brief synopsis of the day's events.

Rami's first program, Sunrise Tai Chi DVD has been in or near the #1 bestselling position for online sales of instructional Tai Chi DVDs since its publication. It was featured in an article on MSN and in Prevention magazine in September 2006.
